Concrete Footpath in Cairns

A neat concrete footpath in Cairns improves access, safety and the overall look of your property. We construct footpaths for homes, businesses, schools, councils and developments, with smooth, durable surfaces that stay safe under foot even in wet tropical weather. Our paths are built to the right width, grade and thickness, with expansion joints placed to control cracking and keep the finished surface looking clean and professional for many years.

We prepare the ground carefully, compact the base, set accurate formwork and pour concrete that suits the expected traffic. The surface is finished with a slip-resistant texture, and edges are neatly tooled for a professional look. We can also match existing paths or connect new sections to driveways and entrances. Contact us today to discuss your footpath requirements and receive a quote for work that is built tough and tidy.

What we offer

Concrete Footpath Services in Cairns

Street To Front Door Walkways

We pour the walkway that greets every visitor, running from the letterbox or gate to your entry steps. On a raised Queenslander that often means meeting the bottom stair neatly, and we set the finished height so the landing sits flush with no awkward step up.

Verge And Nature Strip Paths

Public paths outside your boundary are laid to the council's published profile and tied into the neighbouring sections on either side. We handle the set out, pour and turf repair, and leave the verge tidy so the next mower pass is the only sign we were there.

Shopfront And School Walkways

Wider walkways for retail strips, schools, clinics and body corporate grounds, where hundreds of people pass each day. We can stage the pour in sections so entrances stay open, and finish surfaces that cope with trolleys, bikes and delivery hand trucks rolling across them.

Ramps For Prams And Wheelchairs

Where a path has to climb, we build a ramp at a gradient that a wheelchair, walker or loaded pram can manage, with level resting points along longer runs. Kerb ramps and tactile indicators can be included where the path meets a road or car park.

Links To Driveways And Carports

New paths are joined cleanly to driveways, carport slabs, patios and stairs, so there are no gaps for weeds to grow through or raised lips to catch a toe. We dowel or isolate each junction depending on how the two slabs are likely to move.

Lifted Slab Replacement

Tropical fig and palm roots can heave a path out of line within a few years. We saw out the lifted panels, trim or redirect offending roots where it is safe to do so, and pour new sections blended to the colour and texture of what remains.

Hire Concrete Footpath Contractors in Cairns: Three Easy First Steps

A good path links your front gate, carport, clothesline or pool without puddles or trip points. Tell us how people move around your property and we will help shape a route that works, starting with one of these options.

  • Sketch the path: Draw a rough plan showing where the path starts and finishes, any steps or bends, and send it to us by email.
  • Note who will use it: Let us know about prams, wheelchairs, wheelie bins or ride-on mowers so we can set a suitable width and gentle grade.
  • Check the verge rules: If the path crosses the council verge, we can help you understand what approvals may be needed before work begins.

Afternoon storms can leave paths slick and stained, so we pick finishes with good grip and set falls that shed water quickly into garden beds or drains. We also tidy turf edges once the forms come off. Send through your sketch or ring us, and we will organise a quote at no cost.

Why choose us

What Sets Our Concrete Footpath Team Apart in Cairns

Mesh Where The Ground Moves

Paths crossing filled ground, soft silt or reactive clay get steel mesh, not just a thicker slab. It adds modestly to the cost, and if a crack does form, the mesh helps hold both sides level so nobody catches a toe on a raised edge.

Curing Managed In The Heat

Concrete that dries too fast in strong sun loses strength at the surface and can dust or craze. On hot days we start early, keep the fresh slab damp or use a curing compound, and avoid finishing in the harshest midday heat.

Weep Holes And Slab Edges Respected

Termites are a real concern in the tropics, so a path against the house should not cover weep holes or bury the slab edge where an inspection zone is needed. We set levels with that in mind and flag anything worth checking with your pest inspector.

Routes That Suit Your Garden

A path that slices awkwardly across a yard never quite looks right. We walk the site with you, set out curves and junctions by eye and string line, and work around established palms, garden beds and doorways rather than through them.

Small Jobs Taken Seriously

A short side path or a few replacement panels gets the same care as a long commercial walkway. We still prepare the base properly, form it straight and finish it neatly, because a small path is used every single day.

Itemised Quotes, No Surprises

Your quote breaks the price down into excavation, base material, mesh, concrete and delivery, making every cost easy to follow. If something on site changes the scope, such as hidden rock, we talk it through before carrying on.

Concrete Footpath FAQs

Answers about Cairns footpaths: pricing, width and depth, grip in wet weather, council permits and how long the job takes.

Footpaths are priced by the square metre, so a wider path costs more than a narrow one of the same length. The other big factors are how much digging and crushed rock the ground needs, whether mesh is warranted, which finish you choose and whether the concrete truck or a barrow can get close. Steps and landings on a sloping block take extra forming, and hitting rock in the foothill suburbs adds labour. Every job also carries fixed costs for setup and delivery, so a short path often works out dearer per square metre than a long one. Bundling the path with a driveway or patio pour can spread those fixed costs.

Most single-person paths are built somewhere between 900 millimetres and a metre wide. Go wider if two people will walk side by side, or if the path needs to take wheelie bins, wheelbarrows, prams or a mobility aid. For foot traffic, a thickness of roughly 75 to 100 millimetres laid on a firm, compacted bed of crushed rock is typical. The exception is any spot where a car, ute or trailer might ever roll across. Those sections need extra depth and reinforcement, because a path designed for walking will crack under a vehicle, and that crossing point is where paths most often give out.

It should not be, provided the texture and drainage are right. Outdoors we use a broomed or lightly textured surface rather than a smooth steel trowel finish, which can turn slick once wet. Just as important, the path is graded so rain drains off instead of lying on top. In Cairns humidity, water that sits on shaded concrete soon grows a green or black film of algae and mould, and that film causes most slips. Paths beside a south-facing wall or under a mango tree may still need an occasional pressure clean, and a penetrating sealer can make that cleaning easier.

A path inside your own boundary usually does not, but there are exceptions. Approval questions can arise if the work creates a new vehicle crossover, changes how stormwater leaves the property, involves a retaining wall, or falls under development conditions, heritage controls or vegetation protection. Paths on the council verge outside your property normally need a permit and are generally built to council's standard details. Because every site is different, we point out anything that may need checking during our visit, and we recommend you confirm with a private certifier or Cairns Regional Council before work begins.

A simple path is often formed, poured and finished within a day or two on site. Extra time comes from the surrounding work: digging into rock or a slope, building steps or landings, adding drainage, or installing a small retaining edge. We check for underground cables and pipes before we dig, and during the wet season we watch the radar closely and reschedule if a storm is likely to hit a fresh pour. Walking on it gently is normally okay within a couple of days, while concrete takes around 28 days to reach its design strength. Your quote will include a realistic schedule.
