Concrete Path in Cairns

A concrete path in Cairns gives you a clean, durable route through your garden, around your home or between buildings. Concrete handles wet season rain, humidity and foot traffic far better than gravel, mulch or timber, and it stays neat with very little upkeep. We build paths of any length and shape, finished to suit your property, from simple broom textures to decorative options that complement your home and garden.

Our team marks out the route, prepares a compacted base, sets formwork and pours the concrete with accurate falls so water drains away. Joints are placed to control cracking, and edges are tidied for a crisp result. Whether you want a short garden path or a long access route, we deliver quality work that stays tidy for years. Contact us today to discuss your new path and arrange a quote.

What we offer

Concrete Path Services in Cairns

Backyard Paths To The Clothesline

A firm route from the back door to the clothesline, shed, chook pen or veggie beds, so you are not tramping through wet grass and mud for half the year. Flexible boxing lets the path bend around trees and garden beds instead of cutting straight through them.

Side Passage Walkways

Narrow side passages are often shaded and home to the bins, hot water system and air conditioner unit. A concrete walkway turns that strip into clean, usable access, and we work carefully around meters, taps and downpipes so everything stays reachable once poured.

Under House Paths And Slabs

Many Queenslanders on stumps have a dirt or gravel area underneath used for storage, laundry or parking. We pour paths and slabs between the stumps, boxing neatly around each one, so the space under the house becomes clean, dry underfoot and genuinely useful.

Stepping Pads And Feature Paths

Individual concrete pads set into lawn, pebbles or groundcover create a relaxed garden path with a tropical resort feel. We cast the pads in place in whatever shape you like, finish them in exposed aggregate or colour, and space them to suit a comfortable walking stride.

Hillside Paths And Garden Steps

On sloping blocks we combine path sections with formed concrete steps, so you can get from the house down to the pool, shed or lower lawn without scrambling. Riser heights are kept consistent along the run, which makes the walk easier for kids and older visitors.

House Perimeter Aprons

A concrete apron around the base of the house keeps garden beds and mulch back from the walls, makes the edges easy to sweep, and gives you a dry place to stand when reaching windows, taps and the hose. It also tidies the strip where lawn struggles under the eaves.

Hire Concrete Path Contractors in Cairns: Three Easy First Steps

A well placed path stops muddy tracks through the lawn and makes moving around the yard easier all year. Planning one with our Cairns team is relaxed and practical, and the first step takes only a few minutes.

  • Sketch the walkway: Draw the route from door to gate, clothesline or shed, add rough lengths, and note any steps or garden beds along the way.
  • Send a quick message: Use the contact form or email to tell us the path width you have in mind and any finish you like the look of.
  • Walk the route with us: On site we check where water pools after heavy rain, so the falls and edges send it away from the path.

Heavy tropical rain finds any weakness in a path fast, which is why ours sit on compacted bases with sensible falls and well placed control joints. Lawns and plants are protected during the job, and the yard is left clean when we finish. Request your free quote today and we can plan a path around the way you actually use your yard.

Why choose us

What Sets Our Concrete Path Team Apart in Cairns

Clear Of Weep Holes And Termite Barriers

A path poured hard against a house can cover weep holes, bury the damp course or bridge a termite barrier. We set levels below these details and keep any required inspection edge visible, so the path never creates a problem for the building it serves.

Shady Strips Kept Safe Underfoot

Side passages and under-house paths rarely see sun, so they stay damp and grow algae in the humidity. We give these sections a textured broom finish, add extra grip on any slope, and can suggest a sealer that makes mould easier to wash off.

Mesh Across Unstable Ground

Sections that cross old fill, reactive clay or a former garden bed are the likeliest to shift. Reinforcing mesh ties the slab together so that if a crack does open, both sides stay level and it never becomes a lip to catch a toe.

Joints That Look Deliberate

All concrete contracts slightly while curing, so we set the joints out on purpose, evenly spaced and lined up with steps, corners and gate openings. That way they read as a deliberate pattern along the path rather than a scatter of random saw cuts.

Edges Backed Up Firmly

A path with unsupported sides gradually chips and slumps into the neighbouring garden bed. We form clean, square edges and pack soil or edging firmly against them once the boxing comes off, so the line stays crisp as the garden grows in around it.

Small Jobs Treated Seriously

A short run to the clothesline gets the same base preparation, compaction and finishing care as a long driveway. Small pours are where shortcuts tend to creep in, and they are usually the ones that crack or sink within a few wet seasons.

Concrete Path FAQs

What Cairns homeowners ask before building a path: how wide to go, how pricing works, matching older concrete, keeping cracks under control, and how soon you can use it.

Around 900 millimetres is about the narrowest a single person will find comfortable, and a full metre is noticeably nicer. Allow 1.2 metres or wider if two people will walk side by side, or if wheelie bins, a wheelbarrow, a pram or a mobility aid need to pass. The front entry deserves the most generous width, since it is the route visitors use and a skinny path there looks stingy. Service routes to the bins or clothesline can be tighter, although on sloping ground some extra width makes turns and steps easier to manage.

Mostly by the square metre, which means width affects the price as much as length. On top of that come excavation, any rock in the way, whether mesh is needed, your preferred finish, and how simply a truck can get concrete to the spot. Plenty of Cairns homes have tight side access, so barrowing or a line pump may be required. Batching plants also apply small-load charges, which makes a short path relatively expensive on its own. Grouping a few small jobs, such as a path, bin pad and step, into one pour is far better value. We quote properly once we have seen the site.

Close, but rarely exact, and it helps to expect that from the start. Older concrete has faded and collected surface staining over the years, while fresh concrete comes out much lighter. The gap narrows as the new work weathers, but it never fully closes. If a seamless look matters, we can tint the new mix with an oxide to sit nearer the old colour, or coat old and new sections in one resurfacing system for a uniform finish. In some cases a deliberate contrast, like a coloured border or a different texture, looks neater than an almost-match.

Most cracked paths are really settled paths. We start by digging out soft soil and laying a well compacted road base, because a weak base causes more trouble than anything else. Next comes reinforcement where the path crosses fill or reactive clay, which is common around Cairns as the soil swells through the wet and shrinks again in the dry. Mesh holds both sides of a crack together. Finally, control joints at sensible intervals give normal shrinkage a tidy place to show. Some cracking happens in all concrete, so the aim is to control where it appears and stop it turning into a step.

Normally after 24 to 48 hours for light foot traffic, although keep off the edges a little longer as they gain strength last. Concrete reaches its design strength at about 28 days, which matters less for a path than a driveway because nothing heavy drives over it. In the tropical heat we keep the surface damp or covered to slow drying, and if a storm rolls in we cover it again, so build in some flexibility. Where the path is the only way into the house, we stage the pour, often in two sections, so you always have access.
