Polished Concrete in Cairns

Polished concrete in Cairns delivers a sleek, modern floor that is tough, easy to maintain and well suited to the humid tropical climate. Grinding and polishing the concrete surface creates a smooth, glossy finish that reflects light, resists stains and never needs carpet, tiles or other floor coverings. It is a popular choice for homes, shops, restaurants, offices and warehouses looking for a clean, contemporary look that lasts for years.

We grind the concrete through progressively finer stages, then densify and polish it to achieve your desired level of sheen. You can choose from different aggregate exposures, from light cream finishes to full stone looks. Polished floors stay cooler underfoot and are simple to clean, making them practical as well as attractive. What we offer

Polished Concrete Services in Cairns

High Gloss Residential Floors

Reflective floors for homes where you want rooms to feel brighter and larger. A polished slab carries daylight from windows and skylights deep into the house, which helps darker hallways and open living zones, and it gives you one seamless surface with no grout lines to scrub.

Showrooms and Hospitality Venues

Car yards, boutiques, restaurants and bars in the Cairns CBD choose polished concrete because it keeps its looks under heavy foot traffic and chair legs. Spilt drinks wipe straight off a densified surface, and there is no need to shut the doors every year for a recoat.

Sheds, Garages and Workshops

A burnished, densified floor for home workshops, garages and commercial sheds. It releases far less concrete dust than a raw slab, so tools, cars and stored gear stay cleaner, and oil drips or tyre marks are much easier to mop up before they soak in.

Coloured and Dyed Polishing

Penetrating dyes can tint a polished floor in charcoal, warm earth tones or softer greys. The colour goes into the concrete rather than sitting on top as a film, and we can stain borders or a logo in a contrasting shade for a business entry or feature area.

Polishing on New Builds

When you are building, we work with your builder from slab design onwards, timing the grind between framing and lockup. Once polished, the floor is covered with protection board while the remaining trades finish the house, which keeps paint, plaster and scratches off the new surface.

Anti Slip Zones and Treatments

Polished floors near entries, ramps and outdoor transitions can turn slick when rain is tracked in during the wet season. We can apply a clear anti slip treatment or keep those areas at a lower sheen, so the floor stays safe without losing the look elsewhere.

Hire Polished Concrete Contractors in Cairns: Three Easy First Steps

A polished floor can lift a whole home, and in many cases your existing slab can be ground back rather than replaced. Here is how to take the first step with our Cairns polishing team.

  • Lift a corner of the carpet: If you are renovating, pull back a little floor covering and photograph the bare concrete underneath, then email it through so we can gauge its condition.
  • Pick your sheen: Tell us whether you like a low satin, a semi gloss or a high gloss look, and how much stone you want showing.
  • Book a slab assessment: We visit to check moisture, hardness and any cracks or repairs, then put together a written quote for the full job.

Polished concrete is well suited to Cairns living. It is easy to sweep, gives dust and allergens nowhere to hide the way carpet does, and stays pleasant underfoot on sticky summer days. We take care with every stage of grinding and sealing. Reach out now and we will price your new floor with a free quote.

Why choose us

What Sets Our Polished Concrete Team Apart in Cairns

Trial Grind On Your Own Slab

No two slabs polish the same. Stone can be patchy, old trowel marks can surface and earlier repairs may show through. We grind a small sample area first, so you decide based on your actual floor, not a showroom photo.

Edges And Corners Finished Too

Big ride-on grinders cannot reach skirting lines, door frames or tight corners. We follow up with hand grinders around the perimeter, so the floor along the walls carries the same sheen and stone exposure as the middle of the room.

Silica Dust Captured At Source

Grinding concrete releases fine silica particles that are dangerous to inhale and settle on every surface. Each of our machines runs with industrial vacuum extraction, and we seal off the work area to keep the rest of the house livable.

Sealing Chosen For The Space

A cafe floor, a shed and a family lounge face very different wear. We pick the densifier and protective guard for the traffic, spills and cleaning each room will see, instead of applying the same product everywhere.

Honest Calls On Tired Floors

Some slabs just do not reward polishing. Where the surface is soft, the stone is sparse or patching is extensive, we will explain why a full polish would disappoint and point you to an overlay or a sealed grind as a better fit.

Aftercare Explained Before We Leave

Polished floors need little upkeep, though they are not mark proof. At handover we cover which cleaners are safe, what can etch the surface and simple habits that keep the sheen looking fresh for years.

Polished Concrete FAQs

Polished floors in Cairns, explained: whether your current slab will polish, choosing stone exposure, living with it in tropical weather, cleaning, and how it compares with grind and seal.

Many can, though slabs vary a lot, so we like to grind a sample area before giving you an answer. The key factors are how much stone sits near the surface and how evenly it is spread, the flatness of the slab, and any heavy patching, glue or tile bedding that has to come off first. A slab that was placed well with good aggregate can polish up superbly. One with a weak top layer, many repairs or sparse stone near the surface will look blotchy no matter how much grinding goes in, and resurfacing with an overlay, or a ground and sealed finish, is the smarter path. Older Cairns homes often have slabs that were laid to sit under carpet, never to be seen.

This choice has the biggest effect on the final look, so we suggest seeing real samples before deciding. A cream polish, or the lightly speckled look some call salt and pepper, takes only a thin layer off the top, gives a soft, understated look and copes better with a slab that is not perfectly flat. Full exposure grinds deeper until the stone is clearly visible, a bold look favoured in cafes, retail spaces and contemporary homes, but it relies on plenty of evenly spread aggregate and costs more because of the extra grinding. On a new build, the concrete mix and finishing can be planned around polishing from the start. Our trial patch shows each option on your floor.

It is firm underfoot, so it feels harder than carpet or timber, and a dropped glass is unlikely to survive. Its big advantage in the Far North is temperature: shaded concrete stays cool to the touch, which feels great through the long humid months, particularly where wide eaves or a verandah keep direct sun off the floor. It also gives dust mites and mould spores very little to hide in, unlike carpet in a damp climate. Sound does bounce around more, so a large open room with hard surfaces can feel echoey, but rugs, curtains and soft furniture settle that down quickly.

A regular sweep or vacuum, then a damp mop with a pH-neutral floor cleaner, is all most homes need. Keep acids well away from it. Vinegar, citrus-based sprays and some bathroom cleaners can eat into the polished face, leaving flat, cloudy spots that only re-polishing will remove. Wipe up wine, cooking oil and fruit juice promptly, especially in the first few months. Place mats at outside doors to trap sand and grit carried in from the garden during the wet season, because grit is what gradually dulls the sheen. Unlike timber, a polished floor needs no recoating, although a light re-polish can lift the shine after many years of heavy use.

With true mechanical polishing, the slab is ground with finer and finer diamonds until the concrete itself shines, and a densifier hardens the surface along the way. Nothing sits on top. Grind and seal uses a coarser grind to level and clean the floor, then a clear coating supplies the gloss and protection. It is cheaper and works on slabs unsuited to polishing, though that clear layer wears through in busy areas and has to be redone every so often. A polished finish lasts longer, cannot peel and looks more refined at close range. In a garage, shed or high-traffic commercial floor on a tighter budget, grind and seal is often the practical option.
