Concrete Pavers in Cairns

Concrete pavers in Cairns give your outdoor spaces a refined look with the strength of concrete underneath. We install pavers for driveways, patios, pool surrounds, walkways and entertaining areas, with plenty of colours, shapes and patterns to choose from. Pavers are slip-resistant, hold up well in tropical weather and can be lifted and replaced if you ever need to access services below the surface, such as water pipes or cables.

A paver job is only as good as its base, so we excavate, compact and level carefully before laying. We cut and fit each edge neatly, then lock the pavers in with quality sand and edge restraints so they stay put. The result is an even, durable surface that looks great for years and boosts your property's appeal. Contact us to discuss your paving project and get a straightforward quote.

What we offer

Concrete Pavers Installation in Cairns

Front Driveway Installs

Complete driveway installs from the boundary to the garage door, covering excavation, road base and the paver layout. We help you choose a size and colour to suit the house, whether it is a raised Queenslander, a brick veneer home or a new build in a northern beaches estate.

Outdoor Rooms and Patios

Paved areas off the back door for dining, a barbecue and a few chairs in the shade. We plan the layout around how you actually use the yard, connect it to paths and garden beds, and leave room for planters or a pergola footing later on.

Poolside Paving

Paving around a pool has to stay comfortable on bare feet in the midday sun and hold its grip when wet. Light coloured units with a textured face suit tropical pools well, and we finish the water edge with bullnose coping that matches the rest of the surround.

Garden Paths and Stepping Stones

Narrow paths linking the front gate, side gate, clothesline and shed, laid in standard pavers or larger stepping units set into lawn or gravel. They keep feet out of the mud during the wet season and give the garden a tidy, finished structure.

Pressure Cleaning and Resealing

Pavers in Cairns pick up black mould, algae and lichen quickly in shaded, humid corners. We pressure clean the surface, treat the growth, top up the jointing sand and apply a breathable sealer that helps the colour hold up longer under strong tropical sun.

Commercial and Strata Paving

Paving for shop forecourts, unit complexes, body corporate common areas and resort walkways. We stage the work so residents and customers keep their access, and we choose units rated for the foot and vehicle traffic each area will see on a busy day.

Hire Concrete Pavers Contractors in Cairns: Three Easy First Steps

Pavers give you plenty of design freedom, from crisp modern grey to warm sandstone tones around a pool. A little planning at the start makes the layout, levels and budget much easier to settle.

  • Sketch the area: A rough drawing with measurements, steps, garden beds and downpipes marked helps us work out paver quantities, cuts and falls.
  • Share a few favourites: Send screenshots of paving you like, from Pinterest or a supplier brochure, and we will suggest products that suit Cairns conditions.
  • Meet us on site: We check the existing ground, drainage and access for machinery, then talk you through base preparation and edging options.

Good paving starts underneath, so we compact the base properly and plan falls that carry wet season downpours away from your home. You end up with neat lines, tight joints and a surface that stays level. Call or message us today to talk through your paving ideas and arrange a free quote.

Why choose us

What Sets Our Paving Team Apart in Cairns

Flexible On Shifting Soil

Where reactive clay heaves and shrinks, a poured slab tends to crack. Individual pavers just ride the movement and settle back, which makes them a sound technical choice on that ground.

Swap Out A Single Unit

If one paver chips or picks up an oil stain, it can be lifted and a new one dropped in. Repairing a slab means cutting and patching, and the patch usually shows.

Walk And Drive Straight Away

There is no curing wait. As soon as the units are laid, jointed and compacted, the area is ready for use, handy for rentals and shops that cannot shut for a week.

Simple To Change Later

Want a wider drive, an extra path or a new pipe run underneath? The pavers come up and go back down, with no saw cutting, jackhammering or fresh concrete required.

Plenty Of Design Freedom

Sizes, tones and patterns range from tight herringbone to loose, natural-looking stepping layouts, giving you far more ways to style a yard than a plain poured surface allows.

Water-Permeable Choices

Permeable pavers allow rain to soak down between and through the units instead of running off, which can ease the load on drains during heavy wet-season storms.

Our approach

Why Ours Stay Put

Base Depth Matched To Use

A footpath and a driveway need very different foundations. We dig deeper and add more road base where cars will park, compacting it layer by layer with a plate compactor so the finished surface keeps its shape under load.

Perimeters That Hold Firm

Without a solid border, pavers gradually creep outward until joints widen and units rock. We set concrete haunching or fixed edging along every open side, a detail some installers quietly skip to save time.

Falls Worked Out Early

Heavy tropical rain pools on any flat patch. Before a single unit goes down, we string out levels so water heads to drains or garden beds, keeping the bedding sand from washing out and the clay below from turning soft.

Joint Sand Done Right

Interlock comes from full joints. We use a jointing sand suited to the area, often a polymeric type that firms up once wet, then vibrate it down and top up so the pavers lock together and weeds struggle to get started.

The Right Paver For The Job

Driveway units need extra thickness, and poolside units need to stay cool and grippy underfoot. We steer you towards products rated for the traffic each spot gets, not just the ones that look good in a brochure.

Straight Advice On Alternatives

Some sites suit a slab better than pavers. Where heavy parked vehicles, a caravan or machinery will sit for long periods, poured concrete may serve you better over time, and we will say so even if it means a different quote.

Concrete Paver FAQs

Answers about paving in Cairns: choosing pavers or poured concrete, keeping weeds out of joints, why paving dips, driveway loads, and typical install times.

Your block and the way you will use it decide this one. Pavers come out ahead on ground that moves, because they shift slightly instead of cracking, a real plus on the reactive clay under some Cairns suburbs. They also suit spots where pipes or cables may need to be reached later, where you need the area back in use quickly, or where replacing one damaged unit would be handy. Poured concrete tends to suit heavy, stationary loads, owners who prefer one seamless surface without joints to maintain, and large plain areas, where it normally costs less per square metre. We will inspect the site and recommend what fits.

Over the years some will, and it is the complaint we hear most, but it can be kept in check. Most weeds sprout in dirt, leaf litter and moss that collect in the gaps, not from the soil below, and shady, damp corners during the wet season are usually the first to show it. Keeping the joints full and well compacted, and giving the area a sweep now and then, makes a big difference. Polymeric sand, which hardens after watering, cuts weed growth noticeably compared with ordinary sand. No paving stays completely weed free, but good jointing keeps the upkeep light.

Almost always because of what is underneath. Pavers sit on a bed of sand over compacted road base or crushed rock, and when that layer was poorly compacted or water has washed through it, the base slowly settles under use and the surface dips with it. Reactive clay below makes base depth and drainage even more important. The upside is that repairs are simple: we lift the affected section, fix and recompact the base, rescreed the sand and relay the same units. Compare that with a sunken concrete slab, which generally needs demolishing and repouring.

They are, when both the product and the foundation are chosen for vehicles. Units made for vehicle traffic run thicker than patio units, and the road base under them needs to be deeper and more thoroughly compacted to spread wheel loads. Edging matters more too, because tyres push outward at the edges, and where the drive slopes, a firm border also stops the paving drifting downhill. Pattern plays a part: herringbone resists turning and braking far better than units laid in straight rows. If a caravan, boat trailer, work ute or delivery truck will use the drive, mention it when we quote so we can allow for it.

On site it is often similar to a concrete driveway, sometimes a day or so longer, since placing units by hand takes more labour than a pour. The big difference comes at handover: pavers need no curing time, so you can drive on them once the joints are compacted, instead of waiting around a week as you would with fresh concrete. For landlords and shopfronts, that quick return to use can be a big plus. Hot weather affects paving less than pouring, although heavy wet-season rain can still delay base work. A steep block or a narrow side gate can stretch the schedule, and our quoted timeline allows for it.
